COMPETITION RULES

 

All the competition participants will be asked to read and accept the competition rules, which are described below.

General description

Lindström Oy organises a corporate clothing design competition for students from elected universities with a curriculum in clothing design. The competition invitational and it can be incorporated as a part of the student’s study programme. The competition language is English. Lindström Group will send an invitation to the selected universities in October 2009. 

Participants

Participation takes place individually from the invited universities. Participants are preferably students of third or fourth year students. The students will be required to sign up no later than December 15, 2009.

Competition material

The Lindström Award 2010 website will be live in October 2009 featuring application info, sign-up form, competition case material and contact information. www.lindstrom.fi/award2010

Competition task

The competition task is to design the service technician’s outfit for KONE Corporation, according to Case description enclosed in the competition material. 

Competition rules

The competition is carried out in two phases:

  1. Portfolios. Competition proposals are to be implemented in a portfolio including illustrations, specs (production drawings) and material samples. Product proposals must be practical, fully completed designs. The format of the portfolio is free – it can be a be printed portfolio or electronically sent material by e-mail or saved on a CD or memory stick.
    The participants are requested to select a pseudonym to represent them throughout the evaluation process. Each document and part of the portfolio must be marked with the pseudonym in order that the identities of the participants are not revealed to the jury. The documents and pieces of the portfolio should be attached together. The contact information of the participants and the university should be provided on a separate, closed document, for example envelope, attached visibly to the material.
    Jury will evaluate, in January 2010, the portfolios and select the best five designs that will compete as the Lindström Award 2010 finalists.
  2. Prototypes. The earlier mentioned five selected finalists are invited to a product development meeting at Lindström in February 2010. Selected outfits will be realizedinto prototypes by the product development team of Lindström. Klopman will provide the main part of the fabrics used in these prototypes.

Competition deadline

Competition portfolios must be delivered to the Lindström Head Office in Helsinki Finland by January 15, 2010 at 12 o’clock a.m.

Competition jury and evaluation of the proposals

An independent and international jury--consisting of representatives of Lindström Group, KONE Corporation, design and media--will evaluate and judge the competition portfolios and prototypes and select the winner. The jury will not have access to information on the identities of the designers or universities behind each proposal.

The evaluation process the jury will pay particular attention to the following points:

  • Innovative and new solutions of the design
  • Level of concept design and total workwear solution
  • Process of concept design from planning to presentation
  • Brand appearance in design
  • Functionality, practicality and cost-effectiveness of the design
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Communication and co-operation skills during the process

Designs on a catwalk

Lindström will provide the five finalist students the opportunity to take part in the Prize Ceremony held in Helsinki in June 2010. The competition prototypes will be presented on the catwalk. All finalist works will also be presented to the media by Lindström Group.

Award

The winner has the possibility to accept a trainee scholarship with a monthly pay of 1000 euros and work at Lindström Group in its Design Team during four months (totalling 4000 euros). Lindström will also award the winner-trainee with a scholarship of thousand (1000) euros.

If the winner is not able to accept the trainee scholarship, the total prize money will be only four thousand euros (4000 euros).

Should the jury decide to reward additional individuals for their achievements, the maximum grand total award sum is six thousand (6000) euros.

All students will receive a printed diploma and feedback from a high-profile jury consisting of international members of the workwear design industry, media and fashion.

Redemptions

Lindström has the exclusive right to redeem the competition proposal at the price of 500 to 2000 euros depending on the redemption (whole outfit/collection at the price of 2000 or just a one garment/piece of clothing at the price of 500 euros).

The competitors must agree that the ownership and all intellectual property rights, including copyright, will be assigned to Lindström against the remuneration. The remuneration will be considered as a fair and total compensation.

All the proposals that have not been redeemed by Lindström will be returned to the participants’ university. The proposals cannot be otherwise commercially utilised.

Presentation

All competition proposals with names of designers and universities will be presented in June 2010 in a manner chosen by Lindström’s Corporate Communications.

Media contacts

Lindström manages the competition’s media visibility and press contacts. The competition groups and their member are required to allow for their names and competition proposals to be published in a manner chosen by Lindström Group corporate communications.
