QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q: What schools are invited to participate in LINDSTRÖM AWARD 2010?

A: See the complete school list on the ‘Invited Schools’ page.

Q: Can the contestants use ready-made t-shirts or original t-shirt materials as a part of their collection?

A: Yes, they can use ready-made t-shirts and materials as long as they fit the collection and live up to its standards, as well as industry standards.

Q: What materials can be used? Is it okay to use stretchy materials?

A: Main woven materials will be from Klopman workwear fabric collection, but additional stretchy or decorative materials can be added - just as long as the quality of the material is high enough to suit the collection and the workwear purpose.

Q: Can the contestants spice up the designs with materials such as batting, lining and edging? What about zippers, buttons – or prints?

A: Yes, all linings, zippers, buttons and so on are an important part of the design and the contestants can draft a picture with any material and supplier they choose. Prints are also allowed as long as it is thought out how well the materials will endure the work environment and maintenance process.

Q: Is it allowed to design a short-sleeved shirt into a long sleeved one or replace it with a completely different piece of garment?

A: It is not recommended to design other pieces of clothing than the ones mentioned on the assignment as it may make it difficult for the judges to compare it with the other designs.

Q: Can the contestants get the original KONE logo somewhere?

A: The logo files can be found on this website on the ‘Case’ page or the www.kone.com website, along with other useful information.

Q: What should the portfolio be like? What should it include? Is it just for graphic background or should the portfolio be available in digital format? Where will it be presented and should it inclde videos or pictures, and in which format?

A: The format of the portfolio is free. Digital portfolios can be used for many purposes – they can be shown in the showcase area of the award ceremony, or in presenting the collection to the jury. It is possible that the jury will award a special, additional prize to an outstanding visual presentation.
At the very least, the material should contain the workwear design portfolio in a paper or digital format. Digital pictures, movies and presentations in a larger perspective are also welcome.
General formats of digital pictures include PDF, GIF, ZIP or JPEG. Movies in Flash, Acrobat-format, or browser-built are also allowed. You can send in your work by e-mail or by mail on paper, CD or memory stick. The maximum size of the portfolio sent by e-mail should be 5 MB.
